Minimum quantity lubrication is a method of dosing technology. It represents a further development and significant improvement in wet machining, for example in cutting processes. The aim of minimum quantity lubrication is to reduce the amount of lubricant used.
As a variant of belt lubrication, it ensures that workpieces are not overheated by frictional heat. The innovative approach consists of applying the lubricant or coolant in such a way that it cools the workpiece. The term minimum quantity cooling lubrication (MMKS) is also commonly used for this.
With minimum quantity lubrication, an air-oil mixture is applied precisely at the point of action, for example during milling, turning, CNC sawing or forming processes. This is done using special spray heads and nozzles.
